1.  How was life during the Depression different from your life today?
2.  What was Sarah Jane’s favorite book? Why do you think it was her favorite?
3.  Why did Zeke react the way he did to the sight of the car?
4.  Why do you think the author titled this book Thundersnow?
5.  Have you ever experienced severe weather such as Sarah Jane did? How did you feel?
6.  Compare and contrast Sarah Jane’s feelings toward her mother and father.
7.  How does Sarah Jane change during the book? What brought about the change?
8.  Why did Sarah Jane begin to cry when the cow nuzzled her calf?
9.  Did Sarah Jane have very many friends? Why or why not?
10. What was your favorite part of the book? Explain why.
11. Give one example of symbolism in the story and explain its significance.
12. How does the Indian legend of Thundersnow foretell future events in the story?
13. Why do you think the mother acted the way that she did?
14. Compare the beginning and the end of the book. In what ways are they alike? In what ways are they different?

3. Who discovered penicillin? Write a short biography of the discoverer.
4. How have the roles of doctors changed in the past 100 years in the United States.

Geography
1. What state did Sarah Jane live in?
2. What is the topography of the land where she lived?
3. Describe the normal climate.

Ecology
1. Describe the flora and fauna found in this area.
2. What are some changes that have occurred in the plant and wild life in south Alabama during the past one hundred years? What brought about these changes?
